What Affects the Timeline?
Kitchen Size
A small kitchen with 10-15 doors can be completed in as few as 5 business days. A large kitchen with 30-40+ doors, a butler's pantry, or an island with panels may take 7-10 days simply because more pieces require more spray cycles and rack space in our shop.
Color Change Direction
Going from light to dark (e.g., honey oak to navy) is straightforward — one primer coat provides sufficient coverage. Going from dark to light (e.g., cherry to white) requires two primer coats to prevent bleed-through, adding 1-2 days for the extra application and cure cycle.
Condition of Existing Cabinets
Cabinets with significant damage, peeling laminate, or water damage require additional repair work before priming. We use automotive-grade Bondo for structural repairs and sand everything flush. This can add 1-2 days depending on the extent of damage.
Why We Don't Rush: The Science of Cure Time
Every coat of Sherwin-Williams Emerald Urethane needs a minimum of 24 hours to cure properly at controlled temperature and humidity. This isn't optional — it's chemistry. The urethane molecules need time to cross-link and form the hard, durable film that makes this paint last 10-15 years.
Painters who promise 2-3 day turnarounds are either skipping coats, using inferior products, or not allowing proper cure time. The result? Finishes that feel tacky, dent easily, or peel within 6-12 months — especially in Houston's 75-90% humidity.
Our 5-step process with proper cure time is why we can offer a 5-year written warranty on every project. The timeline isn't a limitation — it's what separates a professional refinish from a paint job that fails.
